TROUBLE WITH USING YOUR MOBILE PHONE HERE?

1) Turkey has some restrictions for people bringing mobile phone from abroad. Every Turkish citizen has right to bring one mobile phone from abroad in each 2 years period. There is a database controlled by the government and Turkish citizens can register their phones there with IMEI numbers (displays when you push #06#). This is because, some people try to bring hundreds of mobile phones in their luggages and sell them illegally in Turkey. I find this restriction ridiculous. Anyway, due to this restriction you can use your mobile phone for about 10 days after you entered Turkey. If you stay longer, you will need to get your telephone's simlock broken. Do this before arriving Turkey, this may be a time consuming process during your lovely trip. Another option is to buy a cheap Turkish mobile phone from any mobile phone shop (like Vodafone, Turkcell, Avea or something). Ask your local phone shop for simlock breaking.

2) Like everywhere, if you use your local gsm operator in a foreign country you pay much more. So, it is more wisely to buy a local operator from a shop. You can buy Turkcell (the best quality), Vodafone or Avea. It doesn't make a big differance. Each has some spesific tariffs.
